Mobile Apps

Install Foxl on iPhone and iPad from the App Store, or on Android as a direct APK

Foxl has native apps for iOS and Android. Both are installable today, and both sign in with the same account as the desktop and web apps. Foxl is free, so there is no plan and nothing to buy on any of them.

iOS is on the App Store. Android is not on Google Play yet, so it installs as a direct APK.

iPhone and iPad

Download Foxl on the App Store

Install it like any other app. Signed out, it opens on a welcome screen; Get started takes you to sign-in with your Foxl account: Continue with Google comes first, then Apple and GitHub, or your email. The language picker under the sign-in options sets Foxl's language before you sign in, and your pick stays after. It is free, and the App Store keeps it up to date.

The App Store listing is not available in the European Union yet.

Want builds before they reach the App Store? The public TestFlight beta is still open: install Apple's TestFlight app, open that link on the device, and accept the invitation. TestFlight builds expire after 90 days, and TestFlight offers the newer build before that happens.

Android

Android installs as a direct APK from the GitHub release, the same release the desktop builds come from.

Download the Android APK

Android will ask you to allow installs from this source the first time, because the file did not come from the Play Store. There is no Play Store listing yet, so the APK is also how you update - download the current one and install over the top.

What is in the apps

Both apps carry all three Foxl products:

  • Foxl Agent - chat with your agent, with the message bar docked to the keyboard. The agent runs on your computer, so chat, files, terminal and browser control all work by reaching your desktop over the desktop relay; with the desktop asleep you can still read your conversations. In the iPhone and iPad app, while no desktop is online, the chat says it runs on your Foxl desktop, and a message you send stays in the message box so you can send it once the desktop is back. On the accounts remote chat is offered to, an empty chat offers Switch to cloud chat instead, which says what remote chat does and costs before Turn on switches it on (remote chat).
  • Foxl Notes - record meetings from your phone with the microphone. Transcription signs in to Amazon Transcribe with the AWS credentials on your computer (your desktop hands the phone a one-hour, transcribe-only pass, so a long meeting keeps going if the computer sleeps mid-way), and the AI summary runs on the model provider you connected there. After the App Store update to Foxl 0.9.3 (the 0.9.3 APK on Android), the phone can also record with your own Deepgram, AssemblyAI, OpenAI or ElevenLabs key, with no computer involved (how). A Gemini or OpenRouter key and the on-device engine work only in the desktop app. Your notes sync with Foxl on your computer in both directions, so a meeting recorded on the phone also appears on the computer and the other way round (how).
  • Foxl Code - watch coding tasks, answer the questions an agent is blocked on, review plans, and start new tasks. Foxl Code is in private beta, open to invited accounts; an account without access sees a private beta notice.

A phone reaches your agent, your files, your terminal and your browser only while your computer is reachable. Turn on Keep running when closed on the desktop (see Background service) and your machine stays reachable after you quit the app.

Chatting on iPhone and iPad

What the iOS app adds to a chat:

  • Attach from the "+" button. It opens a sheet with Camera, Photos and Files, and your recent photos as a grid: tap the photos you want (each shows its number, in the order you picked) and tap Add. The grid asks for access to your photo library only when you tap Allow access, and only the photos you add are sent.
  • Terminal. It is in the "+" sheet while your desktop is connected, and on iPhone also in the ... menu at the top right of a chat.
  • How full the chat is. Once a chat has used half of its context window, a small ring with its percentage appears beside the model name; tap it to see how many tokens are in use. It turns amber from 75% and red from 90%.
  • Export chat, in the chat's ... menu, saves the chat as a Markdown file through the share sheet. In a phone's browser the same row downloads the file.

In the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, Foxl is also in the share sheet. Share photos, a PDF, Word, Excel, plain text, Markdown, CSV or RTF file, a web page or a text selection from another app to Foxl, and a new chat opens with it in the message box, ready for your question; nothing is sent until you send it. Up to 10 photos and files are attached from one share, and a HEIC photo is attached as a JPEG. A link or a text selection goes into the message as text (a long text arrives as a text block, as a long paste does). PowerPoint files are not offered.

On the home screen, the Foxl icon has New Chat and New Recording (long-press it; on Android they read New chat and New recording). On iOS 16 and later the same two are in the Shortcuts app with nothing to set up, so you can run them from a shortcut or put them on the Action button. On the iPhone and iPad, New Recording opens Notes and starts the microphone; on Android it opens Notes with a Start Recording button, and your tap starts it.

Screens that need Foxl on your computer, such as Agents and Usage, say so until a computer is connected, with Send link to my computer: it opens the share sheet with a link to foxl.ai, so you can AirDrop it to your Mac or send it to yourself.

On every phone

In the iPhone and Android apps and in a phone's browser:

  • Voice messages. The black circle at the end of the message bar records one: tap it to start and tap again to send (the X cancels), or hold it and let go to send, sliding toward the + to cancel. Foxl transcribes it as you speak and sends the words as your message, with a play button in your bubble. A voice message is up to a minute long. In a chat your computer answers, the recording is kept with the chat on your computer; otherwise it stays on the phone that recorded it. The circle, like the microphone beside it, shows only where what you say can be transcribed.
  • Quick replies. An answer that ends with a short question, such as "Want me to dig in?", can offer up to three replies as buttons under it. A tap sends that reply as your message, word for word; you can also type your own. This works in chats your computer answers, except with a Claude Pro or Max sign-in or the on-device model.
  • Your Foxl. Tap the round Foxl at the top of a chat, or choose Your Foxl in the chat's ... menu. How Foxl responds opens Settings > Personality: How should Foxl answer? and What should Foxl know about you?, two boxes Foxl writes into your SOUL.md and USER.md, and Edit SOUL.md for the whole file. In the iPhone app, Memory opens Settings > Memory. Both need your computer connected. Change look opens Settings > Pet.
  • The Foxl chat. A chat called Foxl sits at the top of your chats, and the Chat tab opens it: one ongoing conversation where a schedule that finishes or fails posts its result, so you can reply to it there. Rename, unpin, archive or delete it like any chat, and it stays the way you leave it.

Make: what Foxl made for you

On a phone (the iPhone and Android apps, and app.foxl.ai in a phone's browser) the tab bar's default row is Chat, Tasks, Make and Notes; a row you arranged yourself stays as you left it, and Channels is still in the side menu.

Make lists the documents, decks, sheets, pages and pictures an agent wrote on your computer, newest first, with the ones you pinned on top. Each card shows the top of the file itself (a deck's first slide, a sheet's first rows, a document's first lines, the picture) and when it last changed; a page that a repeating schedule keeps rewriting says when it refreshes instead. Tap a card to open the file in Foxl's viewer, in a sheet over the screen. The same card appears in a chat on the phone, under the reply that made the file.

It counts a file only when an agent wrote it (not one you saved yourself), and leaves out the agent's memory, shared workspace documents, files you attached to a chat, and the many files one command unpacks or installs. The cards come from your computer, so Make needs it reachable and running Foxl 0.9.3 or later: with no computer connected Make says Connect your computer to see what Foxl made., and with an older Foxl there it says Update Foxl on your computer to see what it made here. The iPad and the desktop are unchanged.

How it works

  • Same account. Foxl is free, so there is no plan to buy: credits pay for Foxl Code (its chat, managed coding agents and Remote machine time) and for the Foxl Relay transcription engine on accounts enabled for it, and chat through your desktop on your own provider never spends them. With no plan to buy, the Account screen shows no plan or tier either.
  • The model follows your computer. While your computer is connected, the model button shows the model your computer has selected, and your messages run on it, until you pick another one on the phone. When the computer is too busy to answer for a moment, the model selector keeps your computer's models and the model you picked. With remote chat on and your computer away, the picker lists the models a cloud reply can run, and the cloud keeps its own pick, so your computer's model is unchanged when it is back.
  • Approvals. With auto-approve off on the desktop, a tool approval prompt can be answered on the phone (how). On a phone it is a card: an email or message the agent would send shows in full with Not now and Send, and a command shows the command with Approve and Not now. A step that uses another app on your computer shows in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps (and app.foxl.ai in a phone's browser) as waiting there, with Deny, and says so when it was answered on the computer. Set the phone up once and it can Allow it too: in the apps with Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint, or the phone's passcode or screen lock each time, while a phone's browser asks for nothing (how).
  • What your desktop is doing. The green dot at the top of the side menu opens the chats still replying to what you sent from this phone or opened on it, tool approvals waiting for you, new replies and unread notifications, how full the open chat's context is and, with a Claude or ChatGPT sign-in on the desktop, the plan's 5-hour and weekly limits.
  • Push notifications arrive when a chat reply or an agent run finishes while you are away, when a scheduled run completes, for a question a Foxl Code task is blocked on, when a Foxl Code task is ready for review, merged or fails, and for a finished transcript; each kind has its own switch under Settings > Notifications. See Notifications for every kind and what each one opens. If you declined the first prompt, switching notifications on for Foxl in the iOS Settings app is enough - Foxl re-checks when you come back to it. The bell opens the notifications sheet, with All and Unread and a Read all button; while your computer is connected it also lists your next scheduled runs.

Native platform behaviour

The phone apps are not a web page in a frame. On iOS in particular they use the platform's own controls and gestures:

BehaviourDetail
Tab barThe system's own bar - real Liquid Glass on iOS 26, system badges, and the same outline icons as Android and a phone's browser. Your tab layout, order and the labels switch carry over from Settings; each tab shows its name by default. On iOS 26 and later it shrinks to its icons while you scroll a page and is full size again at the bottom of the page.
Swipe backSwipe in from the left edge and the screen follows your finger, with the one underneath sliding in behind it. On the chat and Code lists that edge belongs to the sidebar drawer instead; Back is the chevron in the header. In Settings on iOS 26 and later, a swipe right from anywhere on a page goes back.
Text sizeFollows Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size. The range is deliberately narrower than iOS allows, because the largest accessibility sizes overlap a screen this dense.
TypefaceBody text is Geist, Foxl's typeface on every device (Pretendard for Korean), at iOS's standard 17pt on an iPhone. System controls such as the tab bar keep the platform's own type.
Pull to refreshPull a list down past its top to refresh it. On a phone, pulling Recent chats in the side menu reloads it from your desktop (see Conversations), and Schedules (in Foxl Agent and Foxl Code), Foxl Code's Work page and the Files folder list refresh the same way. A phone shows no Refresh button on them; VoiceOver and TalkBack, which cannot pull, still find one.
Status bar tapTap the status bar, or the tab you are already on, to jump back to the top.
Long pressLong-press a conversation and the row lifts, the rest of the screen blurs, and Rename and Delete arrive with a haptic.
Destructive confirmsReal action sheets, with the dangerous choice in red at the bottom edge, rather than two buttons that look alike.
HapticsEvery button, row, tab and switch answers a tap: a selection tick when you choose something, a firmer tap for Send, Stop or New chat, the warning pattern when you confirm a delete, and the failure pattern when a reply fails. Scrolling, plain text and a choice that is already selected stay silent. The Android app does the same.
OrientationPhones stay portrait - chat, notes and tasks are single-column reading surfaces. Tablets rotate freely on both iPad and Android.
LanguageSettings > Apps > Foxl > Language lists all ten languages Foxl speaks, with the system one marked Default. Foxl's own picker under Settings > General still works; left on Auto detect it follows whatever you choose in iOS.

Android gets the same app and the same products; the platform-specific items above (Liquid Glass, SF Symbols, iOS action sheets) render as their web equivalents there, and Android's own system back gesture is unchanged.

Settings on a phone

Settings is in the account menu at the bottom of the side menu: tap your name, then Settings, just above Sign out. From any product it opens the grouped settings list, not one pane buried inside it. A link or a command-palette pick that names a section still goes straight to that section. On iPhone, Settings and the notifications sheet are Liquid Glass sheets; with Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast on in iOS, they are solid, with borders. In the Android app and a phone's browser they are frosted glass too, and solid with Increase Contrast on, with Reduce Transparency where the browser reports it, or in a browser that cannot blur.

Memory is there only in the iOS app, and only while your desktop is connected, because it changes things on the desktop: read the memories the agent saved and delete one (with Undo for a few seconds), and turn Save memories and the daily journal on or off.

A phone's Settings list leaves out two panes: Personality, which a phone opens from Your Foxl > How Foxl responds (above; searching Settings for it still finds it), and Shortcuts. An iPad and a computer still list them, Personality while your desktop is connected.

App lock (iPhone, iPad and Android apps, Android 11 or later; off until you turn it on): Foxl opens only after Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint, with your phone's passcode when those do not recognize you. While Foxl is locked, your sign-in on the phone is sealed by the phone's secure hardware, so nothing can use your account until you unlock. Lock after sets how long Foxl can stay in the background before it locks: immediately, or after 1, 5, 15 minutes or 1 hour (1 minute until you change it).

Something wrong? Settings > General > Report an issue sends a report straight to the Foxl team, with no Discord account needed. The iOS app can also post on Discord or write by email (Report by email), with your version, platform and language filled in.

The bottom bar is one row for the whole app - Chat, Tasks, Make and Notes by default

  • and it is yours to change under Settings > Tab bar: any destination, any order, up to five, labels on or off. Each tab shows its name until you turn off Show labels; a screen reader reads each tab's name either way. A tab your account cannot use yet, such as Foxl Code's Tasks outside its private beta, is shown greyed there with a line saying why, and joins the bar once the account gets access.

Setup flow

The phone apps go straight from sign-in into the product. The first-run setup screens - appearance, then a couple of optional questions - live on the desktop app and, for a new account's first sign-in, on app.foxl.ai in a browser. Everything they offer is under Settings > Appearance either way; see Appearance. The phone apps show the setup only when you ask: Show setup again in Settings > Appearance, or Reset onboarding on any of your signed-in devices. On a phone, the look screen asks for Light, Dark or System only; the colour themes stay in Settings > Appearance.

Prefer the browser?

The web app at app.foxl.ai works on a phone browser and needs no install. The native apps add push notifications, microphone access for Notes, and the native navigation above.
